A late and slow starter in the oil production business (Oman first exports left the country in 1967), the Sultanate has been able, thanks to its political stability and an intelligent and open economic policy towards the rest of the world, to achieve with success a transition from one of the poorest countries in the Arab region to a Country of medium/high per capita income, ranking 40th in the world statistics.
Oman is third most attractive country for foreign direct investments in the GCC and fifth in the Middle East and North Africa region, according to the fDi Report 2020 by fDi Intelligence. The report showed that Oman attracted $3.5bn worth of FDI in 2019 but noted that COVID-19 pandemic weighed negatively on foreign investments in the Arab region, in general, and particularly in the sectors of tourism and transport, following slow rates of global economic growth.

Giuseppe Conte conveyed the greetings of the Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the Italian government to His Majesty the Sultan, and their good wishes to His Majesty and the government of Oman and the Omani people for further progress and development.
